Safe Shipping & Storage

You may order our breads by clicking on the item you'd like to buy.  We ship USPS every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.   In most cases, we ship day-of or next day.  That means if you place your order or a Wednesday and you live in Califorinia, we cannot guarantee the bread will arrive safely.

Please note that our rates are calculated by weight and distance.  We don't want the bread to EVER have to sit in a warehouse over the weekend, so please keep our location (NYC) in mind when you place your order.   We cannot guarantee that our breads will arrive ready to eat out of the bag.  Depending on where you live, please toast before you taste!  Local bread is always the best bread, but so is ours, and we can't be local to all.

Depending on transit time, we may pack our breads frozen. Depending on the weather and on how far away you live,  they should thaw completely in transit. Please note, our breads can and should be refrozen.

If your bread arrives damaged, we will happily refund your money or send a replacement, just give us a call at 917-757-9438 or send an email to

So you received your lovely box of bread.  Now what?!?!

We here at Free Bread have noticed that there are two camps of bread buyers in the US: People who leave bread on the counter and people who store bread in the fridge.  We are in the former camp, which is especially challenging with the limited counter space afforded us New York City dwellers.

  • When you receive your order, remove whatever breads you think will be consumed in two days and place them in a plastic bag.   If you prefer your breads stored in the fridge, you will get an extra 3-6 days of freshness, but the texture will change slightly.  By all means, freeze the rest - Free Bread lasts 4-6 months in the freezer.
  • When you're ready to enjoy, you may thaw at room temp, or place directly into a 350 degree oven or toaster oven for 5-7 minutes, depending on your toast preference.  For the extra-hungry, pop the rolls in the the microwave for 20 seconds and enjoy, and for a nicer crust, follow this step with 2 minutes at 350 degrees in the toaster or conventional oven.
  • If your order contains the Crannies, please note:  they arrive hard!  They are not ready-to-eat!  Please toast!!
